Ice Riding at Swan Lake

Ride Recap

A fun day on the frozen lake with quads, side x sides, dirtbikes, sleds, shifter carts and ice fisherman who set up on the course creating an impromptu chicane before one of the corners.

A huge thanks to Dave Anderson for taking photos throughout the day. His photos are the high quality images in this gallery and for more photos and a slideshow check out our other posts.

Over 24 inches of ice so all sizes of vehicles took to the courses including full size diesel pickups! Lots of fun and interest from those who attended to get out on the ice again before it starts to melt.

11:00am Sunday February 24

The lake can be accessed from Meadowlark Road, across the highway from Avenue Equipment and IRL Truck Centre. Unload at the boat launch then park somewhere along the side of the road remembering to respect the neighbours and not block any driveways.

THIS IS NOT A RACE!
We’re heading to the lake to enjoy the ice before the weather turns warm. There was a race last weekend (check out photos and videos on Facebook) and the track should still be clear. There are still areas with open water so we’re going to stick to the areas that have already shown to be rideable.

Rides are open to everyone, we encourage new riders to come out for a couple of rides to meet club members, find new trails and get a sense of the club before joining.

The Vernon ATV Club promotes responsible all terrain vehicle use. Riders must must carry their driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of $200,000 liability insurance for riding on forest service roads. Quad riders must wear a helmet, side x side riders aren’t required by law to wear helmets but we recommend they do.

First Ride of the Pig (the year)

10:30am Sunday February 10 – King Eddy Road

Looks like the weather is warming a bit, let’s get out on the King Eddy trails. Snow should be pretty solid with the recent cold weather, but will we be able to ride all the trails?

Ride starts at 10:30am, don’t be late!

Winter riding conditions with a forecasted high of -3 degrees and partly sunny (as of Wednesday night). Bring winter riding gear and be mindful of covering exposed skin to reduce the risk of frostbite. There will be a lunch fire to warm up and cook your lunch.

Ride Recap

The forecasted high of -3 degrees never materialized but a big group of riders did so we headed for the hills to enjoy a brisk but sunny Sunday in the forest.

We stopped at King Eddy for a perfect box fire courtesy of Steve’s mad skills then continued on to the tower above Damer Lake. Only a few made it up the tower road but then they proceeded to get stuck on the wind drifted snow.

Marc and Janelle were busy performing towing duties with the RZR on tracks and Jeremy was having fun on his sled showing us how it’s really done in the snow.

Check out Michael’s GoPro summary of the ride on YouTube.
